October 2024 - Guided Journey, Coffee of the Month

Unveiling the Rich Heritage of Colombia Mesa De Los Santos Typica Coffee

We are absolutely thrilled to introduce you to our October coffee of the month that embodies history, dedication, and exceptional quality: Colombia, Mesa De Los Santos Typica lot.

The Grower and Region

This exquisite coffee is cultivated by Oswaldo Acevedo at the renowned Café Mesa de los Santos. Situated in the Mesa de Los Santos region of Santander, Colombia, this estate is located near Bucaramanga and boasts an impressive altitude of 1600 meters. The rich, clay mineral soil of this area provides the perfect foundation for growing coffee of unmatched quality.

A Legacy of Excellence

The estate's story dates back to 1840 when it was named La Mesa de Los Santos (the Table of the Saints) by its founder, Telmo J. Diaz. Diaz managed the 800-acre estate with a commitment to generosity, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of perfection. Today, this heritage is carried forward by his grandson, Oswaldo Acevedo, who remains steadfast in upholding his grandfather’s timeless principles.

Coffee Varietal and Processing

The Colombia Mesa De Los Santos Typica features the Bourbon variety, which is meticulously processed through a full washing and sun-drying method. This careful attention to processing ensures that the coffee's natural flavors are preserved and enhanced.

Flavor Profile and Roast Level

Once you take a sip, you will be delighted by the vibrant cupping notes of cherry juice, lemon, caramel, and herbal sweetness. The coffee is roasted to a medium level, just far enough into the first crack to bring out the sweet caramel flavors without overshadowing the delightful fruit tones.

Commitment to Social Responsibility

Beyond producing exceptional coffee, La Mesa de Los Santos is also a beacon of social responsibility. Over a decade ago, the estate implemented a fair compensation program aimed at paying wages well above the Colombian minimum salary to the dedicated campesinos who cultivate and process the coffee. The program has had a profound impact, providing workers and their families with free health care, education stipends for children, insurance coverage for temporary or permanent work disability, and a pension fund to ensure a secure retirement.

Give it a taste!

Colombia Mesa De Los Santos Typica is more than just a coffee; it is a testament to a legacy of quality, social responsibility, and a family’s unwavering dedication. We are excited to share this remarkable coffee with you and hope that each cup brings you as much joy and satisfaction as it does to those who cultivate it.
