D.I.Y Healthy Dog Treat Recipe

As pet owner's we love to reward our dogs with healthy and tasty treats. There are plenty of great treat options carried by your local pet store, but it can be fun and often healthier to make the treats yourself too. When making treats for your pup you want to be sure you are using ingredients that are healthy and edible for dogs. I like to use organic on all ingredients possible, but this is not necessary. These recipes are easy to make with limited ingredients. You can always add or subtract to a recipe if your dog is picky. Let us know what ones you end up baking and how your dog enjoyed them!
**You can also add flax seeds to either recipe. Please note I am not the creator of these recipes. I have baked them for my dog and wanted to share them with you.
Healthy Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats
This recipe is easy to make with ingredients you may already have in your house. The pups will surely love them. Pumpkin can have several health benefits to your dog, and this is a great way to add a little into their diet.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup Canned Pumpkin
2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 F
- Mix together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add water as needed. The dough should be dry and stiff. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick roll. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces or use cute cookie cut outs.
- Bake for about 40 minutes, or until hard on cookie sheet.
Apple and Carrot Dog Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 1/2 C. Whole Wheat Flour
1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1/2 C. Oats
1 Apple (Cored and Grated)
1/2 C. Carrots (Peeled and Grated)
1 Egg (Beaten)
1/3 C. Vegetable Oil
1/4-1/2 C. Water (As needed, the apple adds moisture)
Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350

Core and grate apples; peel and grate carrots

In one bowl mix the flour, oats, and brown sugar. In separate bowl beat the egg and mix in the oil, water, and grated apples and carrots. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients bowl and mix completely.

Roll dough out and cut into desired shapes

Bake for 40 – 45 minutes or until apple juices are soaked and biscuits are firm.
